NAVAL SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR
Master Chief Turo is from Genoa, New York, and graduated from Southern Cayuga Central High School. He joined the Navy in October 1993, completing basic training and various specialized schools including Aviation Rescue Swimmer School. His first assignment was in Guam with HC-5, where he served as a H-46D Crew Chief and was promoted to Petty Officer Second Class. Master Chief then moved to NAS Meridian, MS, to work in Search and Rescue, earning several qualifications and promotions.
In July 2001, he joined HC-8 in Norfolk, VA, where he became a Quality Assurance Representative and deployed aboard the USS Iwo Jima after 9/11. He was named HC-8 Aircrewman of the Year and promoted to Chief Petty Officer in 2004. Later, he worked at the Naval Survival Training Institute and received multiple awards for his instruction abilities.
Master Chief Turo served in Guam again in 2009 and deployed to Iraq and Kuwait as a Senior Enlisted Leader. He was promoted to Senior Chief in 2013 and later to Master Chief in 2019 at the Naval Aviation Schools Command. His last post was at the Helicopter Sea Combat Weapons School Pacific, where he retired in October 2023 after 30 years in the Navy. He taught at Moss Point High School for 2 years but now serves as the Senior Naval Science Instructor at Pascagoula High School.
A native of Aransas Pass, TX, NC1 Shedd enlisted in the Navy in 2007 through the Delayed Entry Program and reported to Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes in June, 2007. He then reported to NCTC Gulfport, MS to attend Builder (BU) “A” School and Expeditionary Combat School. After earning the title “Seabee”, he reported to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Seven and was assigned to Convoy Security Element (CSE) Team Chisel and later Team Renegade. He served as a communicator, gunner, driver, & vehicle commander. He deployed multiple times to Iraq, Afghanistan, & the Horn of Africa.
He transferred to Naval Aviation Schools Command (NASC) in Pensacola, FL where he qualified as a 1st class swimmer & basic water survival instructor (BWSIC). He served as the NASC Command Master at Arms, BWSIC instructor, CPR/ First Aid Instructor, student admin, & facilities manager. Due to a draw down on Seabees in 2015, Petty Officer Shedd was selected for conversion to the Navy Counselor (NC) rating. In the same year, he applied to the Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron where he would be selected and would earned the title, Blue Angel. He served the team from 2015-2018 as the Blue Angel’s Command Career Counselor, a member of the Power Plants shop, & the music/ narration team. In 2020 he was assigned to his final command, Navy Wounded Warrior via Fleet Readiness Center Jacksonville, FL. He was medically retired from Naval Service in 2022 due to a combat injury.
He is a graduate of Central Texas College, certified NJROTC instructor, & has his Mississippi Educators License. His awards include 2 Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, 3 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Combat Action Ribbon, and various personal, campaign, & unit awards. NC1 began his career as a NJROTC instructor in 2022 at Navarre High School in Florida before moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and joining the Pascagoula Panthers NJROTC program in 2023.
